The “16 Days of Activism” Campaign at the “Izvor Nade” Foundation: Open Forum “Women in Focus – Strength and Perspective Through Open Dialogue”

At the student dormitory “Prof. Dr. Fikret Hadžić” in the “Izvor Nade” Foundation, in collaboration with the TPO Foundation through the UNIGEM project, an open forum titled “Women in Focus: Strength and Perspective Through Open Dialogue” was held. This event, which marked the conclusion of the online campaign “Don’t Blink” by the “Izvor Nade” Foundation, served as a space for dialogue, understanding, and connection, dedicated to empowering women and the collective fight against gender-based violence.

The panelists included Alma Kovačević, a dentist, entrepreneur, and chairwoman of the Board of Directors of “Izvor Nade”; Emina Heganović, founder of the first Brazilian jiu-jitsu club for women in the Balkans and a pharmacist; Jasmina Buljić, a psychologist with extensive experience working with victims of violence; and Melisa Grahić, a social worker and psychotherapist in supervision. The moderator was Sumeja Muratović.

Each speaker brought a unique perspective on the challenges women face, as well as the strength that connects us and drives change. The discussions were deeply emotional, and the forum addressed key issues such as the importance of education, empowering women, and preventing violence. The significance of working on oneself, as well as providing support to other women around us, was emphasized. This forum was indeed a space for dialogue about women, for women, and with women.

Alma Kovačević reminded everyone of the power of education in changing lives, stressing that the role of adult women is to provide young girls with the tools to walk boldly through life, make wise decisions, and never forget their worth.

Sport is not just a physical activity; it’s a space where women can build security and confidence in themselves, said panelist Heganović, while Jasmina Buljić shared her experience working with victims of violence, highlighting the importance of systemic support.

Gender-based violence is not just a personal problem; it is a societal issue that requires a collective response, emphasized Buljić.

The panel was especially enriched by discussions on mental health, which Melisa Grahić highlighted as crucial for maintaining inner stability. Women, she said, need to recognize patterns that threaten their emotional health and seek support without fear of stigmatization.

The online campaign “Don’t Blink,” which preceded the forum, was dedicated to raising awareness about gender-based violence. Through weeks of digital activities on social media, hundreds of people joined the conversation about the importance of empowering women and creating safe communities.
