United in Diversity: Interreligious and Artistic Program

Every human being is worthy of respect, violence against the innocent is a sin, and peace is a shared responsibility,  these are the words with which the Interreligious Program held at IMIC Zajedno on February 27, 2026, began. The program and iftar were jointly organized by IMIC and the TPO Foundation, bringing together representatives of various religious and non-religious worldviews with the aim of promoting goodness, togetherness, love, solidarity, and justice.

In the introduction to the program, Prof. Dr. Zilka Spahić Šiljak spoke about the importance of dialogue and creating space for critical reflection on the reality in which we live. She emphasized that IMIC Zajedno, led by Marko Oršolić, organizes an iftar and interreligious gatherings every year, opening its doors to all who wish to respect the dignity of every person and act inclusively. God gave differences for a reason, and it is up to people to celebrate and live them.

Following the introduction, a religious and artistic program took place, consisting of passages from the sacred texts of the Torah, the Bible, and the Qur’an, as well as poetry and spiritual songs.

Ernada Avdibegović recited the first chapter of the Qur’an, Al-Fatiha, in Arabic, and Dr. Amra Pandžo recited the same chapter in Bosnian. Nikola Vučić then recited the Lord’s Prayer, and Prof. Dr. Zilka Spahić Šiljak prayed the Lord’s Prayer in Arabic (“Ebana ellezi fis-semavati…”).

After that, Nikola Vučić recited verses of the poem:

O One God, Creator of all people,
You who created us from a single source
and breathed dignity into every human being,
teach us to see in every person a brother and sister,
regardless of faith, nation, or language.
Grant that we protect life, choose justice over violence,
mercy over hatred, and peace over fear.
Make us guardians of every person’s dignity,
for we all come from You and return to You.

The President of the Jewish Community in Sarajevo, Rahel Džidić, recited verses from the Torah (Psalm 5): “Hear, O Adonai, my words; consider my groaning…”

At the end, Danijela Perendija recited verses from the Epistle to the Corinthians:
“Love is patient, love is kind; it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…”

Actress Hasija Borić-Stojić then recited verses by two great Bosnian-Herzegovinian poets:
“Jesus Visiting Us” (Nikola Šop) and “Tevbe-i-Nesuh – O God, here I fall in prostration before You” (Musa Ćazim Ćatić).

The program concluded with the song “Kad procvatu behari,” performed by the diva of sevdah, Hanka Paldum.
