Book Promotion “Decolonial Feminism” at the International University in Travnik

As part of the UNIGEM project, the promotion of the book “Decolonial Feminism” by Françoise Vergès was held at the International University in Travnik on February 21, 2025. This important event brought together students, professors, and all those interested in the decolonial approach to feminism and its role in social change.

The promotion began with introductory remarks by the organizers, who presented the key themes of the book, which analyzes feminism through the lens of colonialism, social inequalities, and the history of colonized peoples. Author Françoise Vergès provides a deeper understanding of how the colonial past shapes feminist theories and practices, while also encouraging new approaches to the fight for social justice.

The discussion at the event was led by Aida Varupa and Maja Salkić Smailkadić, who enriched and deepened Vergès’ work in their presentations, emphasizing the importance of decolonial feminism in the context of today’s social challenges. During the discussion, the connection between colonial power structures, gender inequalities, and global human rights struggles was particularly highlighted, opening space for critical reflection and further education on this crucial topic.

This event is a confirmation of the growing need to incorporate decolonial perspectives into both academic and social spheres, and it inspired all attendees to continue exploring, understanding, and applying the principles of decolonial feminism in their everyday lives.
