As part of the UNIGEM project (Universities and Gender-Responsive Policies), the TPO Foundation, in partnership with the University Gender Resource Center of the University of Sarajevo, the ZATO Foundation, and 19 universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro, is organizing the international conference Gender and Peace in the Balkans: Tracing the Path Forward.
The three-day conference will take place in Sarajevo from February 25 to 27, 2025, in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation (with live streaming).
The conference Gender and Peace in the Balkans: Tracing the Path Forward will bring together academic researchers, activists, and policymakers from the region and beyond to collectively analyze the role of patriarchal structures in perpetuating violence and explore feminist approaches to building just and sustainable peace. Through panel discussions, participants will critically examine militaristic narratives of war and peace, analyze intersectional forms of oppression, and map strategies of feminist resistance and solidarity.
This event is not only a reflection on the past but also a call to action. Through feminist visions of transitional justice, memory politics, and global solidarity, the conference Gender and Peace in the Balkans: Tracing the Path Forward aims to strengthen networks and initiatives that empower marginalized voices and build an inclusive future.
