Call for Applications: Winter School “Gender and Art” at the University of Tuzla, 2024

The University of Tuzla, in cooperation with the TPO Foundation and the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC) at the University of Sarajevo, is organizing a Winter School titled “Gender and Art,” which will take place from October 28 to November 2, 2024. This prestigious educational program is aimed at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students from the fields of humanities, social sciences, and art academies.

The Winter School will bring together renowned academic lecturers, artists, and professionals from the region, who will offer 18 interactive lectures and workshops focused on contemporary explorations of the relationship between gender and art. The program will cover thematic areas such as literature, theater, film, music, visual and new media arts, and cultural policy, with a focus on how gender identities and roles influence the production, representation, and reception of art across various cultural and historical periods.

Networking and Collaboration Opportunities

In addition to acquiring new knowledge and participating in critical discussions, attendees of the Winter School will have the opportunity to network and collaborate with colleagues from 19 universities across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro. The Winter School provides a unique space for exchanging experiences and developing critical skills through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates feminist theory, queer theory, and postcolonial studies.

Lecture Topics and Speakers

Throughout the Winter School, lecturers will critically examine the contributions of marginalized gender, sexual, and identity minorities in art, both historically and in contemporary contexts. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, social, and political contexts that shape gender dynamics in art. The program will feature distinguished professors and artists, including Adisa Bašić, Ajla Demiragić, Nebojša Jovanović, Lala Raščić, and many others.

Eligibility and Application

The program is open to third- and fourth-year undergraduate students, as well as master’s and PhD candidates from the fields of humanities, social sciences, and art academies. Selected candidates will be required to attend all lectures and workshops, for which they will receive a certificate of attendance.

Participants will also have the opportunity to write a final paper on a topic related to gender and art, with the support of mentors. The best papers will be awarded cash prizes and published in a compendium.

Financial Support and Costs

All accommodation, meals, and travel expenses will be covered by the TPO Foundation in Sarajevo, allowing selected participants to focus fully on the program without additional financial burden.
