Conference in Sarajevo: Anti-Gender Threats to Rights and Freedoms in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A conference titled “Anti-Gender Threats to Rights and Freedoms in Bosnia and Herzegovina” was held in Sarajevo, bringing together experts, activists, and representatives from the academic community to analyze and understand narratives and practices that threaten gender equality.

Organized by the CURE Foundation and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the conference featured several key panels focused on examining anti-gender actions and exploring ways to respond to them.

One of the prominent panels, titled “Diversity of Anti-Gender Actions in Society: From Narratives to Mobilization and How to Respond to Practices,” provided an in-depth analysis of the various forms of anti-gender practices, manifested through cultural, religious, political, and social mobilizations aimed at restricting rights and freedoms.

During this panel, Lamija Subašić, Coordinator of the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC), presented the work, mission, and vision of UNIGeRC, highlighting the importance of this platform in coordinating activities related to gender equality, the fight against gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination in higher education institutions.

Subašić emphasized that UNIGeRC includes a network of 18 universities across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, providing comprehensive support to improve work quality and preserve the integrity of the academic environment through prevention and support. The panel’s conclusions included recommendations for developing effective strategies to counter anti-gender movements and ensure an inclusive and just society.
