On December 16, 2025, the TPO Foundation, in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, held the fourteenth book promotion of Who’s Afraid of Gender? by Judith Butler, as part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” and as an activity of the UNIGEM network (Universities and Gender Mainstreaming).

The book was presented by members of the Gender Equality Committee: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anita Dremel, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dragana Božić Lenard, and Dr. Ljiljana Bujas, each approaching the work from her own academic and professional perspective.
The presentations emphasized the multi-layered nature of Judith Butler’s analysis, which brings together philosophy, social theory, law, and political practice. Particular focus was placed on the critique of anti-gender discourses and on the ways in which the concept of gender is instrumentalized in contemporary political and cultural conflicts, often with the aim of restricting human rights and academic freedoms.
The presenters highlighted the relevance of the book for understanding contemporary social processes in both national and international contexts, as well as its importance for the academic community, especially in the fields of the social sciences and humanities. The book was presented as a valuable contribution to public debate on democratic values, pluralism, and the social responsibility of science.
The event concluded with a discussion with the audience, which opened up questions about the role of education, scientific research, and public discourse in addressing the polarizations and challenges of contemporary society.
