Panel Discussion – “Women’s Health in the Shadow of Violence: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Problem-Solving”

The “VITEZ” University organized a panel discussion titled “Women’s Health in the Shadow of Violence: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Problem-Solving.” This significant event, held on December 20, 2024, brought together experts from various fields to discuss critical issues related to the health of women who are victims of violence and possible multidisciplinary approaches to resolving this complex issue.

The panel discussion was organized by the TPO Foundation in collaboration with “VITEZ” University, as part of the UNIGEM project. The event gathered prominent experts and practitioners from health, justice, social protection, and education fields.

Among the speakers were Prof. Dr. Maida Mulić, an expert from the Public Health Institute of Tuzla Canton, Suzana Zec, Head of the Department for Police Officer Education at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of SBK, Edina Jaganjac, Prosecutor at the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of SBK/KSB, M.A. Indira Mehić-Čejvan, Director of the Social Welfare Center in Jajce, Lejla Zukan, Philosophy and Sociology Professor, certified mental health counselor, and occupational therapist, and Lejla Heremić, social pedagogue and family counselor at the Safe House “MEDICA”.

After a comprehensive discussion, the panel concluded with several key messages: violence against women is not only an individual issue but a societal one. Therefore, a systematic approach, institutional cooperation, and the empowerment of women are essential for long-term solutions. Additionally, a multidisciplinary approach to addressing this issue is crucial, including public health measures, education, and raising awareness about violence against women. Finally, prevention of repeat violence is necessary through continuous psychological support and social reintegration.
