As part of the UNIGEM project, the TPO Foundation organized a panel discussion titled “Media Activism in the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence” on March 28, 2025, in Sarajevo. The event aimed to explore the role of media and sports role models in the prevention of violence and the promotion of gender equality.
Gender-based violence is not only a women’s issue – it is a societal problem that requires the engagement of everyone, including men, who, through their voice, example, and influence, can contribute to change.
The panel discussion featured sports journalist Semir Mustafić, journalist Aida Hadžimusić Duratović, and athlete and activist Jasmin Ligata.
In addition to the panel, the event also included the screening of the educational video “Sports Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” which featured prominent sports experts, athletes, and journalists, including Vahid Halilhodžić, Sergej Barbarez, Džanan Musa, Damir Džumhur, and Edin Džeko.
The goal of the video was to contribute to the fight against violence towards women through the active involvement of everyone – both men and women – in this cause.
When public figures, in this case, prominent athletes, openly oppose violence, they use their influence to spark change and inspire others, especially men, to reconsider their attitudes and take responsibility for building a society free from violence. Their voices can be a powerful tool for changing perceptions and setting positive behavior models.
