A two-day conference titled “Gender and Gender Equality in Cyberspace” took place in Sarajevo, organized by the TPO Foundation and the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGERC). This interdisciplinary event focused on exploring the intersections of gender, technology, and the digital world. The conference provided a platform for exchanging research, ideas, and experiences on how gender issues are represented, amplified, or triggered in the online space.
It was especially aimed at students, offering them a chance to delve into these important topics.
Among the participants was Džejlana Čejvan, an economics student, who shared how valuable the experience was for her. She highlighted the impact of the lectures, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, which gave her a deeper understanding of the challenges women face in the digital world, as well as the opportunities for improving security, inclusivity, and equality online.
The discussions were particularly inspiring, as they covered both theoretical aspects of gender in digital spaces and practical examples, helping her grasp the complexity of the issue more thoroughly.
The conference featured distinguished speakers, including keynote speakers like Slađana Jeremić from the Women’s Studies Center in Belgrade, who addressed the political, economic, and technological challenges in the digital world, and Medina Mujić Ph. D., who spoke on the role of media and social networks in preventing femicide. Fahir Kanlić Ph. D. from the International University of Sarajevo presented the topic “Gender and Artificial Intelligence,” while Jelena Guga Ph. D. from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade discussed biases in artificial intelligence algorithms.
