The TPO Foundation in Sarajevo organized a series of educational sessions on the topic of “Corruption and Gender-Based Violence” as part of the UNIGEM project. The trainings took place from November 11 to 14, 2024, and were aimed at various target groups, including university staff, civil servants, police officers, and students. The goal was to raise awareness about the connection between corruption and gender-based violence, as well as to strengthen participants’ capacity to recognize and fight these issues.
The sessions were led by two experienced trainers from Serbia: Gorjana Mirčić-Čaluković and Brankica Marić, both public prosecutors from Belgrade with decades of experience in the field of prosecution.
Participants went through a comprehensive program that included an analysis of the links between corruption and gender-based violence, with a particular focus on specific forms of corrupt practices that disproportionately affect women, such as economic violence and sexual extortion.
Corruption and gender-based violence are global challenges that undermine social structures and slow down progress toward equality. These issues are especially prevalent in poorer societies, where patriarchal norms and economic hardships create fertile ground for various forms of violence against women and girls.
Taking into account the specific challenges of our region, the aim of the training was to empower participants to identify the gender-specific dimensions of corruption and violence, and provide them with practical tools to combat these phenomena.
This educational program offers an opportunity for gaining new knowledge and exchanging experiences in the fields of corruption prevention and combating gender-based violence, contributing to the creation of a more just society.
