In recent days, the city of Zenica hosted two significant book promotions, organized by the TPO Foundation from Sarajevo in collaboration with the Rotary Club Zenica and Rotaract Club Zenica. These events opened crucial discussions on gender justice and the role of women in today’s labor landscape.
Promotion of the anthology “Discourses of Gender Justice”
The first event took place on Monday, October 28, 2024, featuring the anthology “Discourses of Gender Justice: An Analysis of Legal Frameworks and Judicial Practices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia”, held at the Zenica City Museum. Lawyer Vukica Marjanović Suljić moderated the discussion, with presentations by Dr. Sabiha Husić and Dr. Nermin Šehović.
This anthology is the result of a research initiative titled “Integrating Gender Perspectives in Universities (UNIGEM),” involving nineteen partner universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia. Through a critical analysis of judicial decisions in cases of gender-based violence, the anthology’s authors provide insights and recommendations for enhancing legal frameworks and addressing deeply embedded gender stereotypes within judicial systems.
Promotion of Susan Ferguson’s book “Women and Work: Feminism, Labor, and Social Reproduction”
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, the second event presented Susan Ferguson’s book “Women and Work” at the Zenica City Museum. This event was moderated by Muhsin Ibrahimagić, with presentations by Mensura Sušić, director of Empress d.o.o., and Lamija Subašić, coordinator at TPO/UNIGeRC.
Through a historical analysis of capitalism, “Women and Work” delves into the complex ways feminists have understood and redefined women’s labor. Susan Ferguson’s exploration, framed through three major feminist perspectives – equality feminism, critical equality feminism, and social reproduction feminism – underscores the vital role of women’s work in society, highlighting essential human needs such as security, health, and creativity.
These Promotions as Platforms for Dialogue and Awareness
These book promotions in Zenica gathered academics, activists, and advocates for gender justice. With support from Rotary and Rotaract clubs, the TPO Foundation continues to foster a space for open dialogue on the pivotal issues facing society today, encouraging a deeper understanding of gender equality, legal frameworks, and the historical dimensions of women’s labor.
