The main speaker was Amra Bakšić Čamo, and the discussion was moderated by Professor Adisa Bašić from the University of Sarajevo.

On May 28th, a new panel discussion in the “Female Workers in Culture” series was held at Manifesto Gallery under the title “Artist or Professor: How to Keep Academia from Taking our Soul?”. The main speaker was Amra Bakšić Čamo, and the discussion was moderated by Professor Adisa Bašić from the University of Sarajevo.

Amra Bakšić Čamo is a distinguished and multi-award-winning Bosnian-Herzegovinian producer and professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. She is involved in film, television, and art production, and the works she has produced or mentored are regularly showcased at festivals in Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam, Turin, Istanbul, Sarajevo, and many others. Some of the films she has worked on have been nominated for an Oscar or have won prestigious awards like the Silver Bear. Additionally, Bakšić Čamo has collaborated with numerous prominent directors, including Danis Tanović, Srdan Golubović, Miroslav Terzić, Damjan Kozole, Teona Strugar Mitevska, and Una Gunjak.

During yesterday’s event, they discussed what helped Amra achieve an international career, how being a woman has influenced her position in the production industry, and how she has successfully balanced her artistic work with her teaching duties. The event was incredibly inspiring and provided valuable insights into the challenges and successes women face in the cultural industry.

We would like to remind you that “Female Workers in Culture” is a series of panel discussions conceived and moderated by professors from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo, Ajla Demiragić and Adisa Bašić. These panels are conducted within the UNIGEM project, implemented by the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC) and the TPO Foundation.

Each panel is designed as an open conversation that allows the exchange of experiences among writers, visual artists, musicians, producers, and entrepreneurs in the field of culture. Through these discussions, we aim to empower cultural workers as well as all participants of the panels. These meetings strive to contribute to the establishment of new solidarity links and cooperation among women workers, as well as to the valorization of their achievements, and the improvement of their social status and visibility.
