A panel at the Jewish Community marked Human Rights Day and the conclusion of the “16 Days of Activism” campaign

The TPO Foundation today marked Human Rights Day and the conclusion of the “16 Days of Activism” campaign against violence against women with a panel discussion on the topic “How to Live in a Patriarchal Society Without Demonstrating a Significant Will for Change?”

The panel discussion was held at the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina and was organized in collaboration with seven high schools: Third Gymnasium, Obala Gymnasium, School of Applied Arts, Music School, Medical School, School of Traffic and Communications, and the School of Leather, Textiles, and Design.

The panelists were Lamija Krupalija from Third Gymnasium, Dalila Durak from Obala Gymnasium, and Lamija Nezirović, a student of the Medical School, with the event moderated by Ema Halilović.

The dynamic discussion covered various topics, primarily focusing on the prejudices that women most often face. One clear example discussed was the myth that “Eve is to blame for Adam eating the apple,” which also reflects the image of women in society.

An interesting point raised during the discussion was the divided opinions on patriarchy. Some participants believe that patriarchy has been eradicated in our society, while others argue that it is still very much present in today’s postmodern world.

Another topic explored during the debate was the definition of equality between women and men. It was concluded that inequality still persists, with examples such as the ongoing wage gap, where women and men are paid unequally for the same job.

After the panel, attendees had the opportunity to view works created by students of the School for Textiles, Leather, and Design, including pieces by Nađa Ligata, Ema Šesto, Adna Skopak, and Hena Čaušević.

This event was organized and implemented by the TPO Foundation as part of the UNIGEM project.
