Li-Woman Women’s Association from Livno marked 30 years of existence and active engagement. To celebrate this important anniversary, a commemorative conference was held in Livno on 29 August 2026, bringing together members, associates, friends, and partners of the Association. Prof. Dr. Zilka Spahić Šiljak attended the event on behalf of the TPO Foundation.
If three decades of Li-Woman’s work could be summed up in one word, that word would be empowerment. Over the past 30 years, through numerous projects, initiatives, and activities, Li-Woman has created spaces in which women could speak, learn, connect, and actively participate in shaping their communities. At the same time, the Association has worked with children, young people, and other members of the local community, affirming that the position of women cannot be improved in isolation from broader social relations.
A particular focus of its work has been on the protection of women’s rights, the prevention of and response to domestic and gender-based violence, as well as women’s economic empowerment and the development of women’s entrepreneurship. Another important area of its engagement includes activities aimed at peacebuilding, reconciliation, and interreligious cooperation, which are especially significant in a society that continues to face the consequences of war, divisions, and mistrust.
Li-Woman continues to address issues that often remain on the margins of public policy. One such issue is the position of single-parent families. Through the project “One Parent – Double Responsibility,”the Association draws attention to the everyday economic, social, and institutional challenges faced by single parents and advocates for the establishment of long-term and systematic forms of support. Thirty years of continuous work demonstrate that social change rarely happens overnight. It is built through sustained engagement, solidarity, mutual support, and the willingness to speak out against injustice even when doing so is not easy.
The TPO Foundation congratulates the Li-Woman Women’s Association on this significant anniversary and wishes it continued success in empowering women and building a more just, supportive, and inclusive community.
