16 days of activism: UNIBL debate club Alkibijad marked the Campaign

In the period from November 29 to 30, 2022, the “Alkibijad” debate club, in cooperation with the University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) and the TPO Foundation, marked the “16 Days of Activism for Gender Equality” campaign of the UNIGEM project, which the TPO Foundation implements regionally in partnership with 19 universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia with the support of the United Kingdom Government. The slogan of the Campaign for 2022 is “Look, speak out against the violence”.

The first activity was realized on November 29th and it consisted of workshops on the topics of  “Gender equality”, “Violence against women”, “Usage of the Institute of Necessary Defence by victims of violence”, “Mobbing at work” and “Inability to use maternity leave”. The lecturers were: professor Mile Šikman Ph.D., head of the Training Centre for Police Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska and professor at the Faculty of Law and Security Sciences UNIBL, and Sanda Gvero, an assistant at the UNIBL Faculty of Law.

The workshops were followed by a discussion that resulted in numerous conclusions about ways to prevent violence against women.

The second activity was realized on November 30 in the courtroom of the UNIBL Faculty of Law, where a debate was held on the statement “Victims of violence should not be punished for exceeding the necessary defence”. After the debate, there was a discussion with the audience, which consisted of members of the Banja Luka’s Red Cross, members of the “Gorgije” Debate Club of the Banja Luka Grammar school, representatives of the City of Banja Luka and UNIBL students.

We would like to thank the Debate Club “Alkibijad”, the University of Banja Luka, and all the participants who helped in the realization of the Campaign with their support, presence, and active participation.
