16 Days of Activism: Young people as initiators of change at the University of Tuzla workshops

As part of the “16 Days of Activism for Gender Equality” campaign of the UNIGEM project, which the TPO Foundation implements in partnership with 19 universities from BiH and the region, two more enlightening and inspiring workshops were held in the organization of the Council for Gender Equality of the University of Tuzla. The first was held on 12/12/2022. under the title “Be everything you want to be: through interests and abilities to gender equality”, and another, “Because I’m a woman? Exactly because I’m a woman!”, was held on 20/12/2022.

At the first workshop “Be everything you want to be: through interests and abilities to gender equality”, the UNTZ Faculty of Philosophy hosted the students of the final grades of Jala Elementary School. Students of the final year from the Psychology study program Anđela Barukčić, Emira Sočić, Senaida Sarajlić, Samra Klempić, and Dalibor Milanović, with their work and knowledge, made a change where it is most needed in order to make people who are younger than them aware of stereotypes and gender discrimination and how to reduce it, and make the right decisions in the future. The workshop was held under the mentorship of professor Ljubica Tomić Selimović Ph.D., and the pedagogue of Jala Elementary School, Melisa Jaganjac, was responsible for the organization and coordination of the students’ visit to this institution.

The second workshop, entitled “Because I’m a woman? Exactly because I’m a woman!”, held at the UNTZ Campus on December 20, 2022, was designed and implemented by first-year students of the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation. The guests were students from the PI Construction and Geodesy School of Tuzla, under the guidance of professor Jasminka Dropić, and students from the Contemporary Art School of Tuzla, under the guidance of professor Amila Beširović.

Both workshops showed that young students, high school students, and even younger elementary school students can together be the initiators of change and influence the negative trends in society.
