Announcement – Education of non-teaching staff of the University of Sarajevo

As a part of the activities of the UNSA Council for Gender Equality and the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC), during May and Jun, educations for non-teaching staff titled “Gender Mainstreaming Policies at the Organizational Units of the University of Sarajevo” will be organised in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies “Prof. Dr Zdravko Grebo”. The educations are intended for non-teaching staff, in particular the heads of student services, lawyers and secretaries of the faculty and other organizational units of the University of Sarajevo in order to present them with the basics of the concept of gender-based violence and discrimination, with a focus on sexual harassment, and to present them the documents and institutional mechanisms that the University can use to provide all their employees, as well as students, protected from different aspects of gender-based violence.

Below is a schedule of educations by UNSA organizational units:

  • The first education will take place on 30 May 2022, and it will be attended by representatives from the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Political Sciences, Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, Faculty of Criminal Justice, Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Philosophy.
  • The second education will take place on 31 May 2022, and it will be attended by representatives from the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, the Faculty of Catholic Theology, and the Faculty of Pedagogy.
  • The third education will take place on Jun 06 2022 and will be attended by representatives from the Faculty of Health Studies, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine with Clinics, Faculty of Veterinary.
  • The fourth education will take place on June 07 and will be attended by representatives from the Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Performing Arts, Music Academy
  • The fifth education will take place on June 13 and will be attended by representatives from the The Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Traffic and Communication, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
  • The sixth education will take place on June 16 and will be attended by representatives from the Institute for Research on Crimes against Humanity and International Law, Institute of History, Institute of Language, Oriental Institute, Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

Lecturers will be professors from the University of Sarajevo, members of the UNSA Council for Gender Equality. Beside the topics concerning the concept of gender-based violence at universities, participants will be presented with the results of the UNIGEM survey conducted at UNSA in 2021, on a sample of students, teaching and administrative staff. The UNSA Gender Action Plan will be discussed, and as well as the Protocol on the treatment of sexual and sexually based harassment as a form of violence in the administration organs, public companies, public institutions and legal entities founded by Sarajevo Canton, and Guidelines for the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment, harassment based on sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics at UNSA.

The education is organized as part of the project “The University and Gender Mainstreaming (UNIGEM)”. Project is supported by the UK Government and implemented by the TPO Foundation.
